Christmas pudding recipe (Dessert)

Yield: 24 servings

2 cups sugar
½ lb ground shortening
cups flour
4 cups crumbled bread
1 teaspoon baking soda
teaspoons salt
teaspoons cinnamon
teaspoons nutmeg
1 lb golden raisins
1 cup currants
cups seedless raisins
½ cups mixed candied peel
½ cups sliced cherries
4   beaten eggs
¼ cups dark molasses
½ cups brandy
some   grated rind and juice of 1 orange
2 teaspoons lemon juice
8 oz berry jam
cups chopped English walnuts

Mix all dry ingredients together, and then work in liquids.
Spoon into a greased pudding mold . Cover with foil and steam 3 to 4 hours.
